From Play to Parkinson’s: The Hidden Price of Head Injuries
Back in the day, I was all about the play.
Sure, there was work—but it wasn’t life. Play was life.
Then I found myself in massage therapy school. I was all about flow. If there was pain or dysfunction, I went after trigger points like a bloodhound on espresso.
Still, it was incomplete.
Then I got Rolfed™.
Next thing I knew, I was at The ROLF® Institute. I became all about fascia, fascia, fascia. Fascia and alignment were my gospel.
Still… incomplete.
Then came EFT.
EMOTIONS. EMOTIONS. EMOTIONS.
Today?
I’m all about you.
Not just your conscious story—though that’s part of it.
I’m talking to the energy of you. Your limbic system. Your subconscious. Your inner child. Your inner "why-is-this-happening-again" whisper.
This may involve flow, fascia, trigger points, chakras, emotions...
All of which are energy.
All of which are vibration.
And when energy is blocked—when the vibration is off-frequency—your sense of self gets confused.
Confusion becomes pain.
Dis-ease.
Eventually... maybe even disease.
So the question is:
When did the imbalance begin?
Was it emotional? Physical? At birth? In the womb? In your DNA?
These days, my "niche" is concussions.
And concussions—let me be real—affect all of the above and more. From flow to fascia, from energy to emotion, from gut to brain, and back again.
Let’s talk concussions.
We tend to think of the first one as some epic moment in time. But as a Gen Xer, I call BS. We were wild. We jumped off roofs, fell off bikes, cracked heads, shook it off, and did it again. Rinse and repeat.
Not just a Gen X thing, though—it’s a human thing.
LET’S HAVE FUN!!!
…No matter the cost.
The cost?
Confusion.
Brain fog.
Physical pain.
ADHD.
Addiction to the “fun.”
Even Parkinson’s disease.
In 2020 alone, there were an estimated 3.8 million concussions from sports and recreation. That’s not counting car accidents and trauma that weren’t “fun” at all.
Research shows up to 50% of concussions go undiagnosed.
Yeah. Half.
“Concussion might increase one’s risk of being diagnosed with Parkinson’s, dementia, ADHD, and mood and anxiety disorders (MADs).”
— Family Medicine and Community Health, “Associations between concussion and risk of diagnosis…” (Morissette et al., 2020)
That 25-year study found a:
57% increased risk of Parkinson’s
39% increased risk of ADHD
72% increased risk of MAD’s
From a single concussion.
Let that land.
One.
I’ve worked with people who’ve had multiple car accidents and still suffer—years later—from brain fog, confusion, chronic pain.
Said it before, saying it again:
Take care of the imbalance ASAP.
💡 So What Is Parkinson’s?
Parkinson’s is a movement disorder caused by a drop in dopamine production.
(Mayo Clinic Source)
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter tied to:
Mood
Attention
Memory
Sleep
It’s also the precursor to epinephrine (adrenaline), and it’s produced in the substantia nigra and ventral tegmental area of the brain—both of which can be negatively impacted by head injury.
And here’s the kicker:
Dopamine is also made in your gut—by the microbiome.
Guess what gets messed up when you take a hit to the vagus nerve during a concussion?
You guessed it: your gut-brain connection.
So yes, this is your reminder to:
Eat for YOUR body
Learn to relax
Heal your brain
And—just maybe—heal everything about yourself
😵💫 Wait, Heal Everything?
Yes. Because your issues may not have started with the concussion.
If you’ve never known how to relax—thanks to childhood chaos—then someone telling you to “just relax” after a head injury feels like a joke, right?
This might be why:
The other stuff didn’t work
You doubt anything will work
You think “this is just how I am now”
But if nothing changes, and dopamine production keeps declining, your odds of a Parkinson’s diagnosis jump to 57%.
That means:
Shaking.
Stiffness.
And the heartbreaking inability to feel joy when something good happens.
Let’s not let it get to that point.
🧘♂️ Do This Right Now
Learn to relax.
This is a simple—but powerful—exercise:
Count backward from 100.
Slowly.
Breathe in and out through your nose... slower... slowest.
If you lose count, start over.
Do not stop until you reach 0.
When you get there, your nervous system will be more regulated.
Your brain may have produced a bit of dopamine.
And you’ll have practiced something that most people never do:
Self-regulation.
Now say out loud:
“I feel better now.”
Congratulate yourself. A pat on the back is perfect.
And please—no junk food as a trophy. Your gut is in rehab, remember?
Instead, slice up an apple.
Smile as you cut it.
Eat it slowly.
Smile again.
This signals your subconscious that you’re not only safe… but that this apple is the best thing in the world.
Because healing doesn’t have to be miserable.
Sometimes, healing looks like flow, fascia, and fruit.
Ready to Recalibrate? Let’s Go.
I know this journey because I’ve lived it.
I’ve crashed, burned, shaken it off, and kept pushing—until the fog, the pain, and the confusion caught up with me. Like many of you, I thought I was just “wired differently,” or maybe just a little broken. But what I eventually learned was that it wasn’t just in my head. It was in my brain. And the body was doing exactly what it had to do to survive—until survival wasn’t enough anymore.
That’s why I created Neurological Recalibration—to help people like you reclaim clarity, energy, and peace. It’s not just about healing concussions. It’s about healing the whole self: the body, the brain, and all the tangled-up energy in between. We get to the root. We clear the confusion. We restore the flow.
If you're tired of feeling like something’s just off—if you’ve been chasing symptoms, trying protocols, and still not getting answers—it's time to try something different. Something deeper. Something real.
You're not broken. Your system just needs a reset.
